The CelebMix Twitter Fandom Awards 2018 wrapped up a few weeks ago, and since then we’ve moved into the interview stages where we interview each of the winners on their big win. We had the absolute pleasure of chatting with the wonderful Lily, behind @5SOSUpdates, on her massive win in the Best 5 Seconds of Summer Fan Account category.
When did you start @5SOSUpdates and what compelled you to make an update account?
I started the account in early 2012, pretty much as soon as I found out about the band, I wanted to spread the word about them and obviously get their attention too, which it did!
How has owning an update account impacted your life?
At first it didn’t seem like it was a “big deal”, but once the boys started to get really famous, I was getting DMs left, right and centre saying how great I was for starting the account and that people appreciated all of my hard work, it’s pretty awesome!
What does being an update account mean to you?
I guess it means a lot to me, I enjoy making people happy, I enjoy all the notifications I get sent to my phone, it makes me feel popular haha.
Give us a quick break down of the daily life of being an update account? Do you have a day to day routine on where to get updates first or do you just update on whatever you see first?
To begin with, I would have a certain schedule I guess that I would go by, but now it’s just whatever I see/hear, I post as soon as I can.
What do you love most about 5 Seconds of Summer?
Everything!
When did you become a fan? How did you hear about them?
I first saw Luke’s videos sometime in 2011, and then it got to December 2011 and my friend and I were already obsessed with Luke and she came up to me in school one day and was like “Lili, look he’s turned in to a band, look look!” And it was just hardcore from there on in.
Do you like collaborating with other accounts or have you ever collaborated with another accounts? Would you consider it if you haven’t?
I have never collaborated with other accounts, but I’d definitely do it in the future if someone wanted to!
Was there ever a point down the road where you wanted to delete @5SOSUpdates? If so, what made you want to keep the account instead of deleting it?
Honestly the thought of deleting the account has never crossed my mind and I don’t think it ever would!
What was your first reaction when you found out you had been nominated for a CelebMix Twitter Fandom Award, and what was your reaction when you found out you won?
Shook. That’s all I have to say.
Where do you see @5SOSUpdates in the upcoming years? Do you think you’ll still be updating through your account?
I hope to still be active on the account, if anything, I hope to have grown and gotten to know my followers even more!
