Ed Sheeran announces social media break

If your soul hasn’t already been destroyed by the prospect of One Direction’s upcoming hiatus, then we’ve got more news for you: Ed Sheeran is taking a break. Why does everybody we love leave us?

We already knew that Ed was stopping releasing music in 2016, taking a step back to focus on his newly signed acts at Gingerbread Man Records (Jamie Lawson and most recently Foy Vance). He’d also hinted at a break from social media as well as music but now it’s been confirmed.

Writing a personal post on Instagram, Ed explained how he will be taking a break from social media whilst he isn’t touring, saying that he wants to see the world through his own eyes and not through a screen. Tbh we could all probably learn something from Ed there.

In his post Ed Sheeran also assured fans that he’ll be back next autumn with a third album so no need to worry too much! Have a read of the whole post here:

Ed has always been a prolific social media user, regularly posting on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, so he probably feels its distracting effects more than anyone. His need for a break is understandable but we’re still going to miss him! Bring on autumn already.

Although he’s stepping out of the limelight for a bit, Ed still has a couple of things lined up for 2016. He’s nominated for two Grammy awards: Record of the Year and Song of the Year, both for anthemic ballad Thinking Out Loud. Hopefully we’ll see him there at the LA Staples Center in February!

2015 has been a fantastic year for Ed Sheeran. He’s played a sold out Wembley Stadium three nights in a row, released his film Jumpers for Goalposts, and really consolidated his position as one of the biggest artists in the world (Thinking Out Loud hit 500 million streams on Spotify and Ed reached 3 billion song plays in total).  His upcoming break is definitely deserved.

Ed seems to be ending 2015 on a high though, tweeting “One more show on the Multiply tour then I’m buggering off for a while, Auckland stadium tomorrow! What a way to end it.”

We hope Ed enjoys his time off and has chance to relax away from constantly travelling and tweeting. This time next year there might be even be a third album. Watch this space.
