Urban Originals founder Susanna Cates bags a $7.6m deal in 15 days for Clontarf home

Susanna Cates, who founded and runs vegan bag and accessories company Urban Originals, has sold her Clontarf family home for $7.6m in just 15 days after changing agencies.

The solid Gordon St property with the touch of Palm Springs glamour and 180-degree harbour views and even a basketball court in the back yard first came to market in August 2021 but failed to sell.

The Cates’ then engaged Priscilla Ouvrier at Atlas by LJ Hooker and embarked on a new strategy including twilight and Sunday open houses, fresh styling and a video, and sold at the top of their price range to a family relocating to Australia from overseas.

Is this Sydney’s best pool?

Ouvrier says the buyers loved the views, the modern architecture and the space offered in the six-bedroom renovated home a walk from Clontarf Beach and grassy reserve.

Cates has been a vegan for most of her life and founded Urban Originals on the northern beaches in 2000, wanting to create a collection that was both ethically produced and fashion forward.

Home prices stabilise

Her designs sell in the US, in Macys and Anthropologie, and now the company is expanding into Europe and Asia.
The Cates family, with four growing children, intends to stay in Sydney.
